NY man accused of attacking neighbor with string trimmer in property dispute

New York State Police in Dover, New York, arrested a 37-year-old man following an alleged assault during a property line dispute, authorities said.

State police were dispatched around 5 p.m. May 15, 2026, to a residence on Holsapple Road in the town of Dover after Dutchess County 911 reported a disturbance, according to a news release.

Investigators say dispute escalated

A Bureau of Criminal Investigation probe determined that a 65-year-old man and Todd Tripp, 37, became involved in a verbal argument over a property boundary, police said.

Investigators said Tripp allegedly raised a string trimmer and struck the victim, causing lacerations to the face and arm and swelling to one eye.

Victim hospitalized

The victim was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Felony assault charge filed

Tripp was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony.

He was arraigned in Town of Dover Court and released on his own recognizance. Tripp is scheduled to return to court at 4 p.m. June 16, 2026.
