A high wind advisory has been issued for southern Westchester, Rockland and New York City from the evening of Nov. 5 through Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service says the advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday. Winds between 20 and 30 mph are likely to blow down trees and power lines, but higher wind gusts up to 60 mph are also possible.
High winds may make vehicle travel more dangerous, especially on elevated roads. The National Weather Service advises all commuters to exercise caution when on the road. All loose outdoor objects should be secured.
Lower Hudson Valley could see power outages
Winds are expected to knock down trees and power lines, so residents should be prepared for potential power outages.
Orange and Rockland said over 100 mutual aid workers are on standby in Rockland to assist storm response efforts. ConEdison said crews would be on standby in Westchester and New York City for emergency assistance as well.
The utility services advise residents not to touch or approach any downed wire. Assume the wire is energized and dangerous and immediately contact your energy provider.
To report a power outage or electrical emergency, local residents should call their utility provider:
