The New York Jets will enter training camp with lots of continuity across the offensive line. Four of five projected starters are returning in the same roles from last year.
Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou are the bookends, Josh Myers is at center, and Joe Tippmann is the right guard. The new addition is Dylan Parham at left guard.
Tippmann was once developing at center, but kicked to guard last offseason following an injury to Alijah Vera-Tucker. The veteran Myers now starts there.
If the Jets are looking for a long-term alternative to Myers, trading for a young center should gain consideration from general manager Darren Mougey.
The Seattle Seahawks may have just the candidate. Backup center Olu Oluwatimi could get traded this offseason, according to ESPN. With Oluwatimi entering the final season of his four-year rookie contract, he’d be cheap to acquire as potential competition for Myers at training camp this offseason.
Oluwatimi lost a position battle to Seahawks starter Jalen Sundell last offseason. He’s now viewed as excess in a crowded Seahawks position room. Oluwatimi has made 13 career starts at center. He’d offer the Jets an ascending alternative option at a position where the starter (Myers) has hit his ceiling.
