The New York Giants were in full pads during their Monday workout, the fifth of their 2025 training camp. The practice took place under a blistering sun, and temperatures were in the 90s.
Here are five takeaways from Monday’s practice session.
First chance to evaluate the offensive line
The Giants still have to settle their offensive line, especially at the right guard spot. Former first-round pick Evan Neal is moving in from tackle to vie for the role. He was the focus on Monday and will continue to be during padded practices.
Left tackle Andrew Thomas (foot) is still on the physically unable to perform (PUP) but worked on the side. The group needs some continuity and discipline. Looks like they might be on their way to that.
Several receivers were not available for action
The Giants have 14 wideouts in camp, but only 10 were available for action on Monday due to physical issues.
Wan’Dale Robinson was held out with a leg bruise as a result of a stray knee on Sunday, two days after a collision with linebacker Brian Burns. Jalin Hyatt has been dealing with hamstring issues and cramps.
Naturally, that opened up some opportunities for others.
Tensions are running hot, just like the weather
Head coach Brian Daboll said before practice that he was discouraging fighting on the field. But this camp has a ton of position battles, and competition has been ramping up.
On Monday, swing tackle James Hudson III and outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux got into some extracurricular activities.
Ground game is coming along
The post-Saquon Barkley world isn’t as bleak as the national media believes. The Giants think they have a budding star in Tyron Tracy Jr. and are smitten with rookie Cam Skattebo.
Daboll has praised both repeatedly this summer. They both have been impressive thus far.
On Monday, the Giants focused on the run, and the duo took turns breaking off big gains.
Jaxson Dart is very smart
Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has the Giants’ offensive coaches smiling this summer. He seems to be way ahead of schedule in his development.
On the play below, he tucks it in and runs for a nice gain, sliding away from danger.
Dart has gotten some first-team reps since joining the Giants, but Daboll isn’t about to rush him into action.
