New York Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is expected to call plays from the sideline during Saturday’s preseason game against the Miami Dolphins in Miami, reports USA TODAY’s Art Stapleton.
Nagy operated from the coaching booth during last week’s preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
Following Saturday’s game, head coach John Harbaugh, Nagy, the offensive staff and the quarterback are expected to compare the two approaches. The group will then determine which setup works better for the team.
The evaluation comes as Nagy continues settling into his role under Harbaugh. The veteran coach has experience calling plays from both locations in previous stops, and the early preseason games provide a controlled environment to test the differences. The booth typically offers a broader view of the field and defensive alignments, while the sideline allows for more immediate communication with players between series.
The decision will help shape the Giants’ offensive process heading into the regular season. Nagy is tasked with directing an offense that includes second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart as the Giants look to establish consistency and identity under the new coaching staff.
The timing of the switch gives the staff real-game data from both vantage points before finalizing plans for the 2026 campaign.
