The New York Giants’ season took another tough turn, dropping to a 2-6 record after a hard-fought road loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Compounding the defeat, the team endured a devastating blow with rookie running back Cam Skattebo sidelined by a gruesome dislocated ankle injury — a sight that left players and fans alike reeling.
Skattebo, a dynamic force in the Giants’ backfield, shares a unique bond with fellow rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, both hailing from the same draft class. Beyond their shared journey, the infectious energy and leadership they’ve injected into the locker room have sparked a cultural shift within the franchise, reigniting passion among Giants supporters and elevating team morale.
Dart, visibly distraught as Skattebo’s injury unfolded during the game, addressed the media postgame, his voice heavy with emotion.
“Yeah, I was devastated,” Dart said. “That’s my boy, so seeing him go down and reacting to what happened—it sucks. It’s the worst part of this game.”
The Giants now face the challenge of filling a void left by one of their most vocal leaders, whose presence has been a constant motivator on the field, sidelines, practices, and team travels.
Skattebo, who had scored a touchdown earlier in the contest before the injury forced him from the game, exemplified his unbreakable spirit even as he was carted off. Witnesses described him rallying his teammates from the cart, shouting encouragement to keep the fight alive.
“After he got hurt, he’s the one actually yelling from the cart, ‘Let’s [expletive] go. Let’s do this. Let’s do it.’ And for us, you know, we’re just trying to do the best we can for Skatt because his energy is infectious,” Tyrone Tracy Jr. said. “You know, for him, being hurt, being injured — me personally, I’m just trying to do everything I can to make sure that, you know, I’m doing it for him.”
Skattebo’s absence will test the Giants’ resilience as they navigate the remaining nine games of the 2025 schedule.
