New York Giants cornerback Deonte Banks will need to prove himself throughout his fourth season with Big Blue this year.
Banks has struggled immensely to begin his NFL career and now faces a make-or-break season entering 2026. The former Maryland star was the Giants’ first-round selection in the 2023 NFL draft but has been extremely underwhelming despite flashing clear potential at the collegiate level with the Terrapins.
Banks is seemingly in the mix for New York’s No. 2 cornerback role despite his earlier career struggles, and was seen starting alongside Greg Newsome II at training camp on Friday.
Fellow Giants defensive back Paulson Adebo would more than likely be named New York’s No. 3 cornerback should Banks, who has performed well this summer with one remaining hiccup, earn the starting role.
However, Banks found himself in a position to make numerous plays throughout Day 9 of training camp but ultimately struggled in both one-on-ones and team drills despite remaining a starting option.
Banks is credited with 147 total tackles, five tackles for loss and two interceptions across his first three seasons in New York. The cornerback will undoubtedly need to play much better football in the final year of his rookie deal, and he may find himself with an excellent opportunity as the Giants’ No. 2 cornerback in the near future.
