The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded more than $700,000 to complete a major project at the Corning-Painted Post Airport in Erwin.
The $731,951 FAA grant to the Town of Erwin Industrial Development Agency will fund the final phase of construction in a project to rehabilitate 3,270 feet of an existing paved airport runway, according to Republican 23rd Rep. Nick Langworthy, who announced the award.
The Erwin IDA said it has completed over $10 million in capital improvements and more than doubled the number of aircraft based at the airport since the agency acquired the general aviation, public use complex in 2001.
The airport generates approximately $1.2 million in economic activity annually, the IDA said.
In addition to the Corning-Painted Post facility, Langworthy on July 9 announced a series of FAA Improvement Program awards to other airports, including $394,724 to the Akron Jesson Field Airport, $386,272 to the Buffalo-Lancaster Regional Airport, and $201,400 to the Chautauqua County Jamestown Airport.
“Investing in our local airports is essential to strengthening our regional infrastructure and economy,” Langworthy said. “I’m proud to support these FAA grants, which will make necessary upgrades that improve safety, access, and future growth opportunities for our communities.”
