Man found dead in Rochester home identified

Police have identified the man found dead over the weekend in a Rochester home, and have ruled his death a homicide.

Officers were called to an apartment within 484 Avenue D, near Remington St., around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, where they located Aaron Johnson-Haygood, 37, of Rochester in the basement, said Rochester Police Capt. Frank Umbrino. Police did not disclose the cause of death but did state that Johnson-Haygood suffered “trauma to his upper body.”

Johnson-Haygood did not live in the house, but was known to “hang out” there, Umbrino said. A vacant apartment within the Avenue D house “was actively being used to sell drugs,” Umbrino said, adding that the slaying appeared to be connected to drug sales.

No charges have been filed in connection with the homicide, which was among the most recent of the city’s 34 homicides to date in 2025, according to Rochester police.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call 911, RPD’s Major Crimes Unit at (585) 428-7157, CrimeStoppers (585) 423-9300, or email MajorCrimes@cityofrochester.gov.
