PHILADELPHIA – Nate Johnson broke record after record in track & field during his career at John Jay High School. Competing one final time for the school late last week, he accomplished his most impressive feat yet.
The Purdue University commit won the decathlon at the New Balance Nationals held at Franklin Field on June 18-19. Competing in the event for just the second time ever, he set a meet record with 7,217 points. The score places him No. 3 all-time in the country for high school boys in the decathlon.
A three-time New York State champion in the pentathlon, Johnson placed first individually in the 100-meter dash (10.86,) the 400-meter dash (48.60,) and the long jump (7.19) this past weekend. He placed top-five in the shot put (12.98,) the high jump (1.96,) the 110-meter hurdles (14.71,) and the javelin throw (49.07.) The only two he did not place top five individually in is the discus throw (39.19) and the pole vault (3.50)
