Christmas is the one day of the year when most stores are closed.
That’s true for Ithaca-area grocery stores, which also may have reduced hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Here is a rundown of holiday hours for the biggest grocery stores and drug stores in the Ithaca area:
Wegmans holiday hours
Wegmans stores will close at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, be closed on Christmas Day and reopen at 6 a.m. Dec. 26. They will close at 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve and reopen at 6 a.m. New Year’s Day.
Trader Joe’s holiday hours
Trader Joe’s will close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and be closed on Christmas Day. Stores will reopen on Dec. 26 operating during normal business hours. Trader Joe’s will also be open until 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and closed on New Year’s Day.
Walmart holiday hours
Walmart stores will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and closed Christmas Day. Stores will be open during their regular hours (which vary by location) New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. For more, go to walmart.com/store-directory/ny.
ALDI holiday hours
Aldi stores will close at 4 p.m. Christmas Eve and at 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Stores will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. They will return to normal hours (9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for most) Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, 2026. For information about specific locations, go to stores.aldi.us/stores.
BJ’s holiday hours
BJ’s Wholesale Club holiday hours may vary by location, so before heading to any local club, members should check store hours at BJs.com/Locations. Generally, though, BJ’s stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas Day and reopen at 8 a.m. Dec. 26. Clubs will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Year’s Day.
Drug store holiday hours
CVS locations will be open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, although some stores may have reduced hours. CVS recommends that people call their local stores before visiting or check hours at cvs.com.
Walgreens stores will be open on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, although pharmacy hours may vary. Customers can check the store locator or the Walgreens app for the most up-to-date store and pharmacy hours.
