The season for fishing is upon us, and if you plan on eating your catches, it’s important to know what is safe to eat and what isn’t.
Trout season officially opened on April 1 in New York, which means Chemung County residents may be headed out to their go-to fishing spot for a day on the river.
The New York State Department of Health on April 1 issued updated advice for eating fish caught in waterbodies statewide.
“New York State is a beautiful place to fish, and as we kick off the fishing season, the Department of Health wants to make sure people have the latest advice on safely eating the fish they catch,” State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald said.
For those who keep their fish to have for dinner, there are some things you should know before consuming them.
