A Hornell business at 9 Canisteo Square has been shut down after a search warrant led to the discovery of over 20 pounds of marijuana, the Hornell Police Department said July 25.
Police searched the property shortly after 4 p.m. July 24. In addition to a sizeable quantity of marijuana, a large assortment of edible products containing concentrated cannabis and other psychedelic drugs were also discovered, according to Hornell police.
Police said the operator of the storefront, identified as Nicholas J. Morris, 47, was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies. Morris was arraigned in Steuben County Court and released.
The building was red-tagged by Hornell City Codes officers and the case was referred to the New York State Cannabis Control Board for further investigation, police said.
New York State Police assisted in the investigation.
The City of Hornell previously opted out of allowing legal marijuana dispensaries within city limits. The only legal dispensaries in Steuben County are located in Corning.
