CANANDAIGUA — A nation of craft beer fans may now also know what Finger Lakes and New York beer drinkers have known for some time.
The Other Half makes a pretty good beer.
In fact, the brewery, which is based in New York City and has locations in East Bloomfield and Canandaigua near the lake, is one of the best breweries in the country, in the eyes of the VinePair and the “people who sell, serve, write about, and brew beer,” as Evan Rail, a writer for the digital media company that covers drinks culture, put it.
The Other Half is included in its top 30 breweries in the U.S., a heady honor for this brewer renowned for its hazy IPAs and collabs.
Breweries recognized hail from as far west as California, Oregon and Utah, and Texas and the Carolinas to the South. Besides The Other Half, Eckhart Beer Co. In Brooklyn also helped put New York on the map. Breweries in Vermont and Virginia are only a roadtrip for a long weekend away.
Even a brewery from Puerto Rico, Boxlab Brewing Co., was included in the list.
Here’s a bit of what Alexander Gates, a freelance contributor to Frolic Hawai’i by Honolulu Magazine, had to say about The Other Half.
“In a beer world where hazy IPAs are everywhere, there are countless mediocre ones and then there is Other Half,” Gates wrote.
Gates waxes nostalgic about visits to New York City and other East Coast taprooms, talking with passionate bartenders and realizing just how talented The Other Half brewers are.
“Each location is unique, yet consistent in celebrating diversity in geography and people, while pouring well-made beer that keeps me coming back,” Gates writes.
