Shea Mullins scored twice, including the winner, lifting Somers to an upset win. This was the teams’ first meeting since the Tuskers stunned Cross River in the playoffs last spring. Sofia Conner had five goals, an assist, six draw controls and two groundballs to lead Somers. Kate Barton added four goals and an assist, Caitlyn Mayfield had a goal, three assists, a caused turnover and eight draw controls, and Mia Paulmeno scored twice. Elena Kellock added a goal, Amelia Marcus had three assists, Megan O’Reilly caused two turnovers, Lily Lassen forced one, Bella Collins recovered a groundball and Emma Donaldson made seven saves. Cross River’s Coco Inglis had five goals, a caused turnover and two groundballs. Fin Degl had two goals, an assist and six draw controls, Erin Brennan had two goals and an assist, Amelia Inglis scored twice, Maye Viders, Dillon Hall and Clara Bazaar each had a goal, Caitlin Brennan had two assists and a groundball, Marcellus Maurice had a groundball and Ellie Inglis made eight saves.

Charlotte Murray had four goals and eight draw controls to lead Bronxville. Mabel Arrighi added four goals and six draw controls, Rose Woolery had three goals and an assist, and Michaela Doheny made 10 saves. Grave van Tienoven, Juliet Bruno, Hadley Ramirez and Caroline Melchionni each scored a goal. Mamaroneck’s Fiona Dunny had two goals and three assists and Lucy Bevilacqua had two goals and three draw controls. Lexi Suman scored twice, BB Mackie had two assists, Teagan Hanrahan and Tess Bevilacqua each had a goal, and Caroline Beyrich made three saves.
Queensbury 12, Wappingers 11 (3 OT)
Addison Boecher took a pass from North Carolina commit Kady Duffy and scored the winner with 35 seconds left in the third overtime for Section 2’s Queensbury. Wappingers had rallied from down 11-8 in the fourth quarter and Brooke Cameron’s third goal tied it with 1:17 remaining and forced overtime. Wappingers’ Ava Feliciotto had four goals and two assists, and Rylin Dorsman, Alexa Reaves, Sophia Coffman, Kenzie Kroohs each scored once. Morgan Jackson had an assist and four draw controls, and Sophia Civitano (seven saves) and Kiley Kroohs (two) combined at goalkeeper. Duffy had three goals, three assists and 17 draw controls to lead Queensbury. Boecher added three goals and an assist, Emerson Leecher and Gianna Marcant each scored twice, Callie Usher had a goal and an assist, Sydney Yrsha scored once and Megan Winnie made five saves in the win.
Ursuline 14, Ursuline Academy (Massachusetts) 9
Tierney Baumann had three goals and two assists and Grace Egan had two goals and three assists to lead Ursuline, which hosted a tournament that included Ursuline schools from other states. Cailin Hanrahan added three goals and an assist, Amelia Davidson scored three goals, Winnie Mancini scored twice, Cat DeAngelis had a goal and an assist, Olivia Monaco had an assist, and Gwen Mobilia made 13 saves. For Ursuline of Massachusetts, Madelyne Lubov and Katherine Maheu each had three goals, Lauren Kelley scored twice, Isabella Nelson had a goal, and Ana Lacy made six saves.
Rye Country Day School 11, Greens Farms Academy 5
Elle Mason had eight goals and a draw control and Dylan Fenyes made six of her eight saves in the third quarter to lead RCDS. Maya Torgalkar added three goals, an assist and nine draw controls, and Sarah Anderson had three assists and caused a turnover. Leela Torgalkar had two assists, four draw controls and three groundballs, Clare Keating had two caused turnovers, two groundballs and a draw control.

Beau Whaling had three goals, two assists, three groundballs, a caused turnover and draw control to lead Rye. Mary Ebeling added three goals, two assists and a caused turnover. Rose Denvir had two goals, two groundballs, four draw controls and a caused turnover, Emma Giannetti had a goal, four groundballs and three caused turnovers, and Blake Sasse and Mia Howson each had a goal and an assist. Ava Connors had two assists and Claire Harney, Kaelyn Motta and Analyse Pio each had one, and Angelina Zaino made 11 saves. Francesca Marcotullio had four goals and two assists to lead White Plains. Brooke Thomas scored three goals, Kelly Constantino had two goals and two assists, and Kate O’Donnell, Kaitlyn Seguso and Ashleigh Dooley each scored twice. Caitlyn Hyatt had a goal and an assist, Madilyn Hyatt had an assist and Lauren Rogers made four saves.
Pelham 19, Scarsdale 5
Arden Keough had five goals, two assists and three draw controls for Pelham. Parker Koupal added four goals and an assist, eclipsing 100 career points. Alex Dolen had two goals and two assists, Brooke Green had two goals, an assist and three draw controls, Ella Klossner scored twice and defender Addison Matyko scored her first varsity goal. Colleen Sheehy had a goal and six draw controls, Lilly Roberts and Gianna Navarette each scored once, and Scarlett Gristina (four saves) and Abby Ginn (one) combined at goalie. Scarlett Kilroe had four goals, three assists and 12 draw controls for Dobbs Ferry. Megan Hartnett scored five goals and Mary O’Dea added four goals, an assist and four draw controls. Molly O’Brien had an assist, four draw controls and three goals, including the 100th of her career. Juliet Curanovic had two goals and four caused turnovers, Katherine Kelly had two goals and three groundballs, Hollen Peet had a goal and an assist and Irma Bravo made 10 saves. Dylan New had five goals and two assists and Cora Moore had four goals, an assist and nine draw controls, including the 300th of her career for Fox Lane. Taylor Webb added three goals and four assists, Michaela Kaltsas had two goals and three assists, and Phoebe Skinner scored once. Hadley Webb had an assist, Madyson Greene had two caused turnovers and three draw controls, Olyvia Wong, Isabel Valenzuela, Phoebe Fisher and Julia Sirchia each caused two turnovers, and Molly Rodriguez made eight saves. Niskayuna’s Madelyn Cummings scored five goals.

Brooke Pizzarello scored three goals and Goldstein had two goals and two assists to lead Lakeland/Panas. Katelyn Kuney and Emma Stewart each added two goals and an assist, Sophia Hoffman had a goal and an assist, Mya Wilkowski scored once and Veronica Lynch made eight saves in the win. Hen Hud’s Carleigh Ortiz scored seven goals, Bridget Couch had a goal and an assist, and Kelsey Wong made eight saves.
Wilton (Connecticut) 11, Nyack 10 (OT)
Gabby Ray scored the winner in overtime for Wilton, giving Nyack its first loss of the season. Nyack sophomore Lila Gilbart scored her 100th career goal.

Friday, April 17
Ursuline 18, Ursuline Academy (Delaware) 8
Amelia Davidson had four goals and three assists and Cailin Hanrahan had three goals and four assists, surpassing 100 career points, to lead Ursuline. Tierney Bauman added three goals and three assists, Olivia Monaco scored three goals and Mary Inello had two assists and her first varsity goal. Cat DeAngelis had a goal and an assist, Reese Monohan scored her first career goal, Winni Mancini and Brooke Sullivan each scored once, Grace Egan had an assist, and Gwen Mobilia made eight saves in the win. Ursuline of Delaware’s Delaney Sullivan, Elise Hopkins and Fenner Songle each scored twice, Elizabeth Yoder had a goal and an assist, Caroline Coen had a goal, and Lucy Copeland made five saves.
Hackley 12, Fieldson 10
Nora Esposito had four goals and three assists to lead Hackley. Charlotte Frazier added three goals and three assists, Selia Fleck scored three goals, Bridget Frazier had two goals, and Zena Hume made 10 saves. Fieldston’s Margo Lynch-Kahn scored six goals and Zoe Tuchman made seven saves.
Nyack backs up the hype in decisive win over Yorktown
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS – Being regarded as one of the elite high school teams in the country creates a potential pitfall, Ella Gould said, if that “outside noise” is allowed in and fosters complacency. It also inspires opponents, making that spotlighted squad the figurative measuring stick and the game on their schedule.
Nyack is in that position now as its section title and the return of several key players to a star-studded group contributed to them being ranked fourth in the nation, according to USA Lacrosse Magazine.
“But we haven’t arrived; we haven’t accomplished everything we need to,” Gould insisted, referring to the RedHawks being in pursuit of their first state championship. “We’ve always had an underdog mentality, no matter what the ranking is.”
That certainly is a good mindset to maintain, although Nyack will likely be favored in their upcoming games locally. Barring the unforeseen, of course.
But nobody could have foreseen them losing All-American Casey Cummings to injury two minutes into their April 16 game against Yorktown. The midfielder appeared to hurt her ankle in a collision while pursuing a loose ball off the draw.
Suddenly, against the best opponent they’ve faced to this point, the difficulty level was raised a couple notches.
Nyack would further validate the hype, nevertheless rolling to 17-11 road win over previously undefeated Yorktown.
“Casey is obviously a huge part of our team, but during the course of a season, circumstances change and you’ll have to make adjustments,” coach Kathryn Parrella said. “It was encouraging to see everybody step up.”
Takeaways
With its seamless offensive fluidity and an excellent defense that clamped the perimeter and pressured the ball, Nyack built a nine-goal lead in the second half. That they were able to do that, against a team that good and under those circumstances, was indicative of the RedHawks’ talent and depth.
“Casey getting injured was definitely a detriment to us,” said Gould, herself a superstar committed to Michigan. “But it’s almost like we wanted to win for her; we went after every ball harder, did everything with a little more intensity.”
After being tended to by trainers, Cummings remained on the bench and cheered excitedly as her team began to pull away in the second half. The Syracuse-bound senior later said she doesn’t think the injury will be long-term.
Nyack is already without star goalkeeper Emily Rodriguez, who suffered a torn ACL and partially torn MCL during wrestling season, but sophomore Paige Scotti has stepped into the role and performed admirably. All of that speaks to the overall strength of the program and its player development, and the growth of girls lacrosse in that community.
“A lot of us have been playing together since we were in kindergarten in the youth program,” Gould said. “This is the culmination of our hard work. We’re not where we wanna be yet, but we’re continually getting better.”
The RedHawks, with aspirations beyond Section 1, committed to challenging themselves throughout the regular season. They’ve got high-profile games upcoming against Connecticut’s Wilton and New Caanan, and St. Anthony’s of Long Island this month.
Player of the game
Ella Gould helped anchor the midfield and orchestrated the offense as a facilitator and scorer. She had three goals and four assists, hitting teammates in stride on cuts and sparking a quick-strike attack that thrived in transition.
Nyack scored three times within 30 seconds of winning a draw.
Turning point
Ashley MacCartney’s caused turnover — a check and groundball recovery — with 5:22 remaining in the second quarter preceded Lila Gilbart’s goal, a one-time finish off a pass from Jane Gould that gave the RedHawks a 9-5 lead in the second quarter.
That sequence was part of a five-goal run to close the first half, capped by Gilbart’s bouncer into the right corner with four seconds left that sent Nyack to intermission with a 12-5 lead. Abby Gould pushed the lead to 15-6 with 2:52 remaining in the third quarter.
Addison Burns intercepted a pass inside the 8-meter arc in the second quarter and later come up with three groundball turnovers. She, Elise Aikens and MacCartney shined defensively. Scotti made six saves, two on free-position shots, in addition to forcing a turnover and recovering two groundballs near the crease.
“Our defense is a special group,” Scotti said. “Everyone has each other’s back, we’re constantly talking about what we can fix or improve, and we’re very supportive of each other.”

“A win like this is important because it builds some moment for the rest of the season,” Scotti said. “It’s just one game, but it was against a great team, and I think wins like this inspire us to keep pushing.”
“It can be tricky,” Parrella said of facing Yorktown, a potential Class B playoff opponent. “You want to win, but you’ve gotta keep some cards in your back pocket, knowing there’s a chance you’ll see them again.”

Eastchester starts 6-0, showing signs of a potential turnaround
Elevating a program during a rebuild sometimes requires a bit of stubborn confidence. It’s an unwavering belief that “We’re just as capable” or at least, “We soon will be.”
That optimism can carry a group through its offseason training, and it can keep them from becoming despondent after the difficult losses.
And, occasionally, that conviction can help spark the turnaround.
“I knew it during the preseason,” Eastchester coach Caroline Keenaghan said of hers being among the handful of undefeated girls lacrosse teams remaining in Section 1. “Watching them work in the offseason, seeing that tangible improvement, and knowing how much they’re starting to believe in themselves, that let me know we can compete.”
The Eagles have won their first six games to start the season, including a few dominant in which the offense has flashed its potential.
“Every day we’re getting better and pushing each other to improve,” said senior Olivia Milaccio, who helps anchor the midfield. “We’ve built a great chemistry and that helps us play more confidently together.”
This, after winning eight games last spring and graduating two key players.
But the Eagles have the benefit of returning a core that includes eight seniors, including defenders Annie McLoughlin and Anna Murray, Ciara Kelly and Gianna Faber on attack, and an experienced goalie in Amelia Fox.
Adding to that is the fast emergence of a solid group of sophomores, led by midfielders Maddy Murray and Sienna Giaquinto, both of whom starred in their 18-8 win over Croton-Harmon on April 16. Giaquinto had six goals and Murray had seven draws controls and scored four goals, including the 100th of her career.
“We’ve got three really good midfielders now and we’re putting more of an emphasis on utilizing them,” said Keenaghan, who is in her first season as head coach after working as an assistant last year.” “Maddy is starting the point of attack for us and having a lot of success going between the 30s.”
Keenaghan graduated from Yorktown in 2018 and was a member of those powerhouse teams that twice competed for state championships a decade ago. She went on to play at Gettysburg, a perennial NCAA Division III title contender. From those experiences and her former coaches, Keenaghan said, she learned the value of setting high standards and instilling in the players a belief that it’s all within reach.
Their “close-knit” nature and the bonding activities — group hangouts that don’t involve practice or competition — have contributed to their early success, Milaccio said. They went for celebratory ice cream after the Croton win.
Of course, the competition does stiffen and the Eagles will soon be tested. They’ve got games next week against Briarcliff and Albertus Magnus, and some really difficult matchups down the stretch with Pleasantville, Mahopac and Wappingers.
Eastchester competes in a now-stacked Class C with a playoff field that will likely include Rye, John Jay-Cross River and Pelham — some of the elite teams in the area.
“It’s about having that mindset that we’re capable of playing at a high level,” Keenaghan said. “We have to believe in ourselves that we can compete for something meaningful with these great teams.”
