State police have accused a Town of Esopus man of possessing photos and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children.
State police said they arrested Richard D. Wade Jr., 46, of Port Ewen, a hamlet in the Town of Esopus, and charged him with three counts of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 16 years of age, a felony.
State police said they received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children earlier this month.
That led to a joint investigation by State Police Troop F’s Computer Crimes Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Highland, Child Abuse Unit in Ulster County and Community Stabilization Unit, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
As a result of that investigation, a search warrant was executed at Wade’s residence on Aug. 12. That revealed that Wade was in possession of images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children, state police said.
Wade was released on his own recognizance and issued a ticket to appear in Esopus Town Court on Oct. 5.
The name of his attorney was not immediately available.
