A 39-year-old man was found dead Wednesday after his pickup truck crashed into a utility pole and ended up partially submerged in a creek in Sullivan County, according to New York State Police.

Jesus Arroyo Ortega, 39, of Livingston Manor, was driving on North Branch Road near Pleasant Valley Road in the town of Callicoon when his pickup struck a utility pole during the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 29, state police said.
Troopers responded to the scene around 7 a.m. after receiving a report of a crash and found the unoccupied pickup partially submerged in the fast-moving waters of North Branch Callicoon Creek, which runs alongside the road, Trooper Jennifer Alvarez said.
Driver’s body found downstream
Emergency crews searched the creek and its banks before locating Arroyo Ortega’s body about 2.6 miles downstream from the crash site. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the Sullivan County Bureau of Fire said in a news release.
Investigation continues
State police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
