Another Proudfoot brother has been voted Guthrie Athlete of the Week.
This time it’s Carter Proudfoot gaining the recognition for the week of Jan. 11-17, 2026.
His brother and Corning boys basketball teammate, Nolyn Proudfoot, was voted Guthrie Athlete of the Week for Dec. 28, 2025 to Jan. 3, 2026.
Last week, Carter hit six 3-pointers and scored 31 points in an 80-61 victory against Ithaca.
The junior started the week with 13 points and eight rebounds in an 85-72 win over Maine-Endwell. Proudfoot added 10 points in a 71-59 win over Elmira to cap the unbeaten Hawks’ 3-0 week.
Carter received 61.1% of nearly 9,000 votes submitted. Max O’Connor of the Elmira Notre Dame boys basketball team was runner-up with 19% of the vote.
Eleven Section 4 athletes from five sports were nominated. Nominees are from the coverage areas of the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin, Elmira Star-Gazette, Ithaca Journal and Corning Leader.

Koen Anderson, Ithaca boys swimming: Anderson won the 200 and 500-yard freestyles during a 54-39 win against Union-Endicott. His 500 time of 4:46.69 was nearly six seconds below the standard to qualify for the New York state championships.
Bre Butler, Maine-Endwell girls basketball: She netted 15 points in a 69-42 victory against Vestal, then scored 19 as the Spartans topped Union-Endicott, 60-48.
Noah Cady, Horseheads boys bowling: Cady had the high game with a 279 and the high series with a 746 at the Southern Tier Athletic Conference midseason tournament.
Alexis Coney, Union-Endicott girls bowling: Coney’s 263 was high game for the STAC midseason tournament and her 626 series also paced the field. Her efforts helped the Tigers to first place.
Allan Eagles, Binghamton Seton Catholic Central boys basketball: Eagles scored 25 points, hitting the 1,000-point career mark along the way, as the Saints topped Chenango Forks, 85-50. He added 17 points in a 77-40 win against Waverly.
Aliya Hankey, Johnson City girls basketball: Hankey had 13 points, 12 rebounds and three assists in a 58-54 overtime win over Binghamton. She followed with 31 points and eight rebounds in a 54-34 victory against Vestal.
Max O’Connor, Elmira Notre Dame boys basketball: O’Connor nailed eight 3-pointers and scored 35 points in a 75-62 win against Newark Valley.
Christopher Simiele, Watkins Glen boys basketball: He had 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a 61-48 win over Newark Valley. Simiele followed with eight points, seven assists and five rebounds in a 59-25 victory over Thomas A. Edison.
Dejah Taylor, Sidney girls indoor track: Taylor won the 55-meter dash in 7.37 seconds and the 300 dash in 41.25 seconds at the Hurley Invitational at Ithaca College.
Gianna Zieniuk, Waverly girls wrestling: Zieniuk posted a 5-0 record as Waverly won all five of its meets at the STAC West/Metro Duals at Horseheads. She won four matches by pin and the other by technical fall.
