A bus operator at the Greater Binghamton Transportation Center was charged with driving while intoxicated after a passenger report.
The Binghamton Police Department responded to the bus terminal at about 4 a.m. on Aug. 2 at 81 Chenango St. after a passenger reported that an operator of a FlixBus carrying several passengers was intoxicated.
Daniel Lugo, 52, of Boca Raton, Florida, has been identified as the operator who was transporting the commercial bus passengers from Newark, New Jersey to Binghamton while allegedly under the influence. Lugo was taken into custody and arraigned on Aug. 2 in Binghamton City Court and released on his own recognizance.
A FlixBus representative was notified of the incident and the passengers aboard the bus were provided assistance by the City of Binghamton Police Department and Broome County’s Security Division, according to a press release.
The Binghamton Police Detective Bureau is still investigating this incident and is coordinating with the Broome County District Attorney’s Office for any additional charges against the driver. Anyone with information is asked to call the detective bureau at 607-772-7080.
FlixBus did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
