Allen Yi of Goshen avenged his loss to Ethan Rodriguez of Minisink Valley at last week’s league tournament by winning the Section 9 tournament title at the Goshen Sports Complex on May 27-28.
Yi topped Rodriguez 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in Thursday’s final. Chris Drake of Cornwall beat Josiah Placide of Newburgh 6-1, 6-2 for the consolation victory and third spot at the state tournament – both singles finalists advance.
The doubles championship was won by Kingston’s Eli Loewen and Ryan Ambrose, who beat Warwick’s Denis McAteer and Victor Januario, 6-4, 6-2, in the final. Spackenkill’s Nathan Steckman and Rehan Shah won the consolation and state spot, 6-2, 6-1, over Middletown’s Russo and Russo.
