Bills waive oft-injured linebacker: Training camp injury updates from Day 10

The Buffalo Bills have finally run out of patience with oft-injured linebacker Baylon Spector and Wednesday morning he was designated as waived/injured.

Spector has been with the Bills since they chose him in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but the former Clemson standout was beset by injuries almost his entire time in Buffalo.

The latest ailment was a calf injury that he suffered Monday at St. John Fisher University. He was worked on by the training staff and then went back onto the field, but shortly thereafter he went down again and that’s when he walked into the training room.

This does not necessarily mean his time with the Bills is done. They could always re-sign him when he’s healthy again, perhaps to the practice squad, but waiving him Wednesday feels like the Bills have decided to move on.

His career counts 26 games, meaning he missed almost exactly half of the Bills’ games in that span. He had four starts, all made last year when Terrel Bernard went down with an injury, and has totaled 45 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one fumble recovery while also playing special teams.

Here’s the rest of the injury report:

LB Dorian Williams injury update

He has been out around a week with a calf injury but he was back on the field for the first time Wednesday, though he worked only in individual drills.

WR Josh Palmer injury update

He has been dealing with a slight groin injury, but he was back practicing in full which is obviously a good sign.

WR Khalil Shakir injury update

He has a high ankle sprain and is wearing a boot, but he was still working on the side with trainers doing what he could including upper body exercises.

LB Terrel Bernard injury update

After missing several days last week with a hamstring injury, he was back on Sunday but is still working up gradually because hamstring can be tricky as well as easy to aggravate.

WR Curtis Samuel injury update

He’s still dealing with a hamstring issue and this camp has essentially been a bust for him. He said last week’s he’ll be fine, but so far, he’s not well enough to participate.

LB Shaq Thompson injury update

The veteran has been out close to a week with a hamstring injury. Thompson signed a one-year contract with the Bills after playing 10 seasons with the Panthers, the last two of which were ruined by serious injuries including a torn Achilles injury that he suffered on Sept. 30, 2024. With Spector’s release, there is a clear roster spot available, but you have to wonder if the 31-year-old can claim it after missing time.

CB Maxwell Hairston injury update

He has been on crutches ever since suffering an LCL sprain his knee early last week, and the diagnosis is that he’s likely out at least three weeks, though it could be more.

K Tyler Bass injury update

The only kicker in camp is still dealing with pelvic soreness and has not practiced since early last week.

OL Alec Anderson injury update

He underwent a knee procedure last week and will be out for at least another two weeks. He was on the sidelines Wednesday doing conditioning work.

S Cole Bishop injury update

Once again, the second-year man is sitting out important reps at training camp, this time with a quadriceps injury.

OL Sedrick Van Pran-Granger injury update

He hasn’t practiced yet at St. John Fisher and Sean McDermott said he may not be ready for several more weeks.

WR Kaden Prather injury update

He’s still out with a hamstring injury and as a seventh-round pick, his chances of making the team were already slim to none. Now, he needs to start proving he’s worth a practice squad spot.
