Keon Coleman is still wearing a walking boot.
The Buffalo Bills wide receiver was one of 28 players who didn’t play in Saturday’s 31-7 preseason victory over the Cleveland Browns, though many of those absences had nothing to do with injuries.
Josh Allen, James Cook, D.J. Moore and most starters were held out after getting extensive work during Thursday’s joint practice.
But Coleman, Khalil Shakir and Ed Oliver were among the Bills sidelined by injuries, while rookie offensive lineman Jude Bowry went into the medical tent during Saturday’s game.
Here’s the latest on Buffalo’s injuries heading into the final week of the preseason.
WR Keon Coleman injury update
Coleman did not play against the Browns and remained in a walking boot before the game.
NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported Thursday that Coleman is dealing with a foot/toe injury.
Coleman played in Buffalo’s preseason opener against Carolina, catching three passes for 17 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown from Allen.
Bills coach Joe Brady indicated after the game that there wasn’t concern about Coleman, but the receiver did not participate in Thursday’s joint practice with Cleveland.
WR Khalil Shakir injury update
Shakir also missed the joint practice and did not play against Cleveland.
Brady confirmed Thursday that Shakir’s absence was injury-related but did not provide specifics.
Shakir was on the field before Saturday’s game working with athletic trainers while wearing a sleeve on his right leg.
DT Ed Oliver injury update
Oliver did not travel to Cleveland for the joint practice or preseason game.
Brady confirmed after Saturday’s game that Oliver’s absence was injury-related.
Oliver played in the preseason opener against Carolina but did not practice last week.
Oliver and his family are also grieving the death of his young son, which the Bills publicly acknowledged Saturday before the game.
OL Jude Bowry injured against Browns
The Bills added at least one injury concern during Saturday’s game.
Bowry went into the medical tent and was replaced at right tackle by Chase Lundt. Bowry returned to the sideline but spent the Bills’ next offensive series on the bench.
Brady did not provide an update on Bowry’s injury after the game.
WR Skyler Bell injury update
Bell missed his second consecutive preseason game because of a hamstring injury.
Bell suffered the injury during the Return of the Blue & Red practice Aug. 8 at new Highmark Stadium and hasn’t played in either of Buffalo’s first two preseason games.
RB Ty Johnson injury update
Johnson remains sidelined after suffering a lower-body injury during the Return of the Blue & Red practice.
Johnson was going one-on-one with linebacker Joe Andreessen when he went down near the right sideline and grabbed his right leg. A trainer helped Johnson walk off the field.
Johnson hasn’t played in either preseason game. He was on the field before Saturday’s game wearing a sleeve on his right leg.
C Connor McGovern injury update
McGovern also hasn’t played this preseason after suffering a lower-body injury during the Return of the Blue & Red practice.
McGovern grabbed the back of his right leg while trying to chase down Christian Benford following an interception. He walked off the field with trainers.
McGovern was on the field before Saturday’s game working with athletic trainers but did not play.
S C.J. Gardner-Johnson injury update
Gardner-Johnson has yet to play this preseason.
Gardner-Johnson was carted off the practice field Aug. 1 but returned to practice five days later.
He left practice early Aug. 10 and has remained sidelined from preseason games.
CB Maxwell Hairston injury update
Hairston missed his second consecutive preseason game with a lower-body injury.
Hairston initially sat out the final training camp practice at St. John Fisher University on Aug. 7. The Bills indicated at the time they weren’t concerned about his long-term availability.
He dressed and warmed up before the preseason opener against Carolina but didn’t play.
S Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop did not play against the Browns after missing the preseason opener with a lower-body injury.
Bishop suffered the injury during the Return of the Blue & Red practice Aug. 8 and missed practice time the following week.
Bishop returned to practice Aug. 18 and participated in Thursday’s joint practice against Cleveland.
WR Tyrell Shavers injury update
Shavers remains on the physically unable to perform list while recovering from the torn ACL he suffered during last season’s playoffs.
The receiver has not participated in training camp or the preseason.
OLB Michael Hoecht injury update
Hoecht continues to work his way back from the torn right Achilles he suffered last season.
The veteran edge rusher has participated in training camp but hasn’t played in either preseason game.
He is expected to play in the third preseason game.
“He’s going to hit the field before the regular season starts,” defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard said last week. “He’s in a great spot.”
