Alfred-Almond, Bath-Haverling win Academic All-Star championships in Steuben County

The 41st Academic All-Stars championships came to a thrilling conclusion Monday night with Bath-Haverling and Alfred-Almond capturing their respective titles.

A large, enthusiastic crowd took in the action at Avoca Central School, where Canisteo-Greenwood, led by coaches Chris Romanchock and Patricia Stauring, and Bath-Haverling, led by coaches Kristina Snavely and Kate McKinley, kicked things off with the first match of the night.

Canisteo-Greenwood came out strong and had the lead after A-Team play, but Bath-Haverling rallied in a strong B-Team round to finish with a 47-44 victory to clinch the 2025 Janet W. Richardson Large School Championship.

The second match featured the Canaseraga team, led by coach Lacey Dieter, squaring off against Alfred-Almond, coached by Steve Donlon. Although Canaseraga performed admirably, the Alfred-Almond team was on point and won with a score of 127-38 to be named the 2025 Angelina R. Karr Small School Champions.

Marcia Lichtman was honored with the Barbara Fairbanks Service Award for her 15 years of serving as Moderator, as well as contributions to the Scholarship Committee. The Barbara Fairbanks Service Award recognizes a person for outstanding work with All-Stars.

Of the 16 teams that competed throughout the six-week season, the top four were honored with trophies for their respective divisions and then faced off for the Large and Small School championship titles Monday night.

The Canisteo-Greenwood, Bath, Alfred-Almond and Canaseraga Academic All-Stars won their respective division titles.
