21-year-old Wayne County motorcyclist dies after crashing into tractor-trailer

A motorcyclist from Wayne County died Tuesday after crashing into a tractor-trailer on State Route 8 in Herkimer County.

Motorcycle strikes tractor-trailer

According to New York State Police, a 21-year-old Wolcott man was riding a motorcycle north on State Route 8 around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, when he “failed to negotiate a curve.”

The motorcycle crossed into the southbound lane and struck an oncoming tractor-trailer, police said. The motorcycle then left the roadway and struck a tree.

The motorcyclist, who was not identified by State Police, died at the scene.

Truck driver not injured

Troopers evaluated the tractor-trailer driver, a 47-year-old man from Ontario, Canada, and determined he was not impaired or injured.

Investigation continues

State Police are continuing to investigate the fatal crash. Further details were not immediately available.
