Fourteenth-ranked Iowa State football escaped Jonesboro with a 24-16 win over Arkansas State on Saturday after a very lackluster performance coming off last week’s Cy-Hawk thriller.
Des Moines Register columnist Travis Hines provides his initial thoughts on a tough, but ultimately victorious day for the Cyclones, who improved to 4-0 heading into a bye week.
Iowa State trailed, albeit briefly, for the first time this season and had to hold the Red Wolves (1-2) to field goals twice following drives of 13 and 15 plays to secure the victory.
The Cyclones return to action and Big 12 Sept. 27 against undefeated Arizona (3-0, 1-0 Big 12) at Jack Trice Stadium.
