A new holiday light show is coming to Water Works Park in Des Moines.
For the first time, Tinseltown will offer a range of holiday-themed activities and events, including a lighted stroll or bike ride through the park, Christmas trees for sale, live entertainment and more. A portion of the proceeds goes toward the Des Moines Water Works Park Foundation to fund conservation efforts, events and activities.
“We’re proud to support an event that brings people together while showcasing Water Works Park in a whole new light,” said Jennifer Anderson of Wright Outdoor Solutions. “Tinseltown celebrates creativity, community, and the spirit of the holidays.”
Has Water Works Park had holiday light displays before?
This isn’t the first time Water Works Park has hosted a holiday event. Jolly Holiday Lights took place at the park for 20 years until flooding in 2015 damaged many of the displays, forcing the event to close early for the season. Since then, Jolly Holiday Lights relocated multiple times and is now at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
Tinseltown has a “significantly smaller infrastructure footprint” than Jolly Holiday Lights, with four to five areas of light displays, making the event less susceptible to flood damage if it were to occur, said Chris Burch, executive director of Des Moines Water Works Park Foundation.
