Social media reacts as Iowa women’s basketball falls to Virginia

The second-seeded Iowa women’s basketball team (27-7, 15-3 Big Ten) had its 2025-26 season come to a stunning end on Monday afternoon. The Hawkeyes dropped an 83-75 double-overtime decision to No. 10 seed Virginia (22-11, 11-7 ACC) in the round of 32 at a sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Hawkeyes fans took to social media to voice their opinion on the shocking defeat.

Overall, Iowa shot 31-for-84 from the floor, 5-for-29 from 3-point land and 8-for-16 from the free-throw line. The Hawkeyes’ inability to close the door on the Cavaliers at several points in the game allowed Virginia to claw back every time.
