A man is dead of a self-inflicted wound and a woman remains in critical condition after a shooting in downtown Des Moines, according to police.
Officers received a call about the shooting in the 800 block of Tuttle St. about 5:45 p.m. Friday, May 8. A preliminary investigation found the man had shot the woman and then shot himself.
Both were initially reported in critical condition, but Des Moines police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek said the man died at the scene.
Police said a dog also was shot and killed at the scene, south of W Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in an area of apartment buildings and warehouses.
The department’s Crimes Against Persons Section detectives and Crime Scene Investigation team remained at the scene Friday evening. A section of Tuttle Street and nearby parking lots were closed.
Police have not released the identities of those involved or the circumstances of the shooting.
