A Madison County man is in custody after allegedly admitting to authorities that he fatally shot his mother.
At around 10 a.m. on Monday, June 22, Madison County deputies were dispatched to the 2300 block of 148th Street north of Winterset for a welfare check, according to a news release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, deputies found Tammy Corkrean, 60, deceased with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the release.
Tammy Corkrean’s son, Theodore Corkrean, 23, was questioned and admitted to investigators that he shot his mother the previous day, according to the news release.
Theodore Corkrean was in custody at the Madison County Jail Monday and initially charged with first-degree homicide. The investigation is ongoing, according to the news release.
Court documents filed Tuesday, June 23, show Theodore Corkrean is charged with first-degree murder and being held on a $5 million cash-only bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 1 for an initial hearing.
Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and West Des Moines Police Department are assisting Madison County in the case.
