Julian Sayin, Andrew Babalola headline latest Big Ten football news

With the 2025 college football season only nine days away for some Big Ten programs and 11 days away for the remainder of them, notable news surfaced from two of the conference’s biggest programs on Monday.

As kickoff for the 2025 season nears, rivals Michigan and Ohio State each had big news come out of their respective fall camps.

Michigan 5-star offensive lineman suffers apparent season-ending injury

Michigan suffered brutal injury news on Monday as five-star, true freshman offensive tackle Andrew Babalola suffered an apparent season-ending knee injury during fall camp.

Babalola, a 6-foot-6, 315-pounder from Kansas City, Mo., finished the 2025 recruiting cycle as the No. 10 overall prospect and as the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country per 247Sports. Babalola is Michigan’s highest-ranked offensive tackle signee of the 21st century.

Michigan is set to open its season on Saturday, Aug. 30, against New Mexico at Michigan Stadium at 6:30 p.m. CT on NBC and Peacock.

Ohio State names its starting quarterback

Heading over to Columbus, Ohio State head football coach Ryan Day announced on Monday that redshirt freshman Julian Sayin will serve as the starting quarterback for the No. 2 Buckeyes when the program opens the season against No. 1 Texas.

Day explained his decision to pick Sayin over redshirt sophomore quarterback Lincoln Kienholz.

The Buckeyes’ epic season-opening clash against the Longhorns will take place at Ohio Stadium on Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. CT, with the game being broadcast on Fox as part of the network’s “Big Noon Saturday” showcase.
