Hannah Stuelke has had an impressive career in Iowa City as she gears up for her senior season. She was the Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year in 2023, a second-team All-Big Ten player in 2024 and of course helped lead the Hawks to back to back National Championship games. And now she can add another accomplishment to her ledger.
It was announced on Thursday that Stuelke will be a member of the 2025 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team. She joins 11 other fantastic players, including Iowa State’s Audi Crooks and LSU’s Flau’Jae Johnson, on the roster. The team will travel to Santiago, Chile to compete in the tournament.
What is the AmeriCup?
The FIBA Women’s AmeriCup is a tournament that takes place every two years and features national teams. It serves as a qualifying tournament for the FIBA Women’s Women’s World Cup and the Olympics. The first Women’s AmeriCup was in 1989, won by Cuba. Because the U.S. women often win in the Olympics, they don’t always compete in this tournament, but have won it four times (1993, 2007, 2019, 2021). The U.S. team finished second in 2023, losing to Brazil 69-58 in the final.
Stuelke is the first Hawkeye to be named to an AmeriCup roster ever and will look to help the U.S. team avenge their loss in the 2023 tournament. Last season for the Hawks, Stuelke averaged 13.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game on 58.4% from the field. She’ll be an experienced veteran on a younger 2025-26 team looking to make some noise.
Fans can tune in to watch Stuelke and the U.S. team when their first game tips off on June 28 against Chile. A time is to be determined for that game. The U.S. team will then play Colombia on June 29. All games for the tournament can be streamed on Max.
