Iowa women’s basketball (5-0) heads into Saturday night on the heels of a major early season win over No. 10 Baylor, 57-52, at State Farm Fieldhouse in Orlando, Florida.
Early in the second half against Baylor, though, sophomore guard Chit-Chat Wright exited with an injury. Wright, Iowa’s second-leading scorer at 12.6 points per game, did not return.
After the Hawkeyes’ win over Baylor on Thursday night, Iowa women’s basketball coach Jan Jensen shared Wright would not play against Miami. But, Jensen didn’t specify what the injury was or share a timeline for her return.
Before Iowa tipped off against Miami (4-0) in its second game of the WBCA Showcase, an Iowa spokesperson clarified the nature of Wright’s injury to Hawk Central. Wright will miss Iowa’s game against Miami with an upper-body injury. Wright will be considered day-to-day once the team returns from Orlando.
“Miami, they do about six different presses, so it’ll be a lot different team than this, and so we’ll really be tested with our press breaker. Unfortunately, it’s without Chit-Chat, so now that’s become a lot more ominous. Not that it wasn’t before, but breaking a press with Chit-Chat makes me sleep a lot better at night.
“Now, breaking it without Chit-Chat, we’re really going to have to depend on our cuts and our angles,” Jensen said after Iowa’s win over Baylor.
Iowa battles Miami on Saturday night with tipoff set for 7 p.m. CT.
