On Monday morning, Iowa women’s basketball learned of sophomore Teagan Mallegni’s decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal with a “do not contact” tag. At the time, the McFarland, Wis., native marked the fourth Hawkeye to enter the transfer portal.
While there was hope that Mallegni could take on a bigger role in the Hawkeyes’ offense this past season, her sophomore campaign was beset by early-season injuries, and unfortunately Mallegni slipped down the depth chart. As a result, she played in only 15 games last season, averaging 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per game while shooting 24.2% from the field and 15% from 3-point range.
Although many Hawkeyes fans would have loved to see Mallegni remain at Iowa, they also expressed their gratitude for her tenure in Iowa City and wished her the best moving forward, even though it will not be in the black and gold at Iowa.
