Iowa State and Iowa have verbally agreed to extend the Cy-Hawk football series to 2031, Iowa State announced on Wednesday, July 29.
The state’s beloved annual tradition and one of college football’s historic rivalries was approaching the end of its contracted deal, which ran through 2027. But now, its safety in the near future is intact.
The last two scheduled matchups on the current deal are this season’s game on Sept. 12 in Iowa City, and then a Sept. 11, 2027 contest in Ames.
This verbally-agreed upon extension has dates set for meetings over four additional years.
Kinnick Stadium will host games on Sept. 9, 2028 and Sept. 7, 2030 in Iowa City, while Ames and Jack Trice Stadium will get the Sept. 8, 2029 and Sept. 6, 2031 contests.
Game times and TV information for future meetings will be announced at a later date.
Iowa State has won each of the last two meetings in the rivalry series, and three of the last four.
Iowa leads the all-time series, 46-25. The Hawkeyes’ 2023 win over the Cyclones was vacated by the NCAA due to a recruiting violation.
