Iowa State football continues to recruit well out of neighboring Nebraska.
On June 18, the Cyclones secured the verbal commitment of Bryson Williams, a safety from Omaha.
Williams is a three-star safety in the class of 2026, according to the 247 Sports Composite. He is also the No. 9-rated recruit in his class from the state of Nebraska, according to 247. To date, the Cyclones have secured commitments from six of the top 10 2026 prospects from the Cornhusker State.
The 6-foot-4, 175-pound safety chose the Cyclones over Colorado State, Vanderbilt, Washington State, Fresno State, Northern Illinois, San Diego State and a handful of FCS schools, including powerhouse North Dakota State.
Williams’ decision comes shortly after his official visit to Ames. He also made official visits to Vanderbilt and Washington State in recent weeks.
He is reported to have a 6-foot-8 wingspan and is a multi-sport athlete, competing as a sprinter on Westside High School’s track team. He was also a member of the 4×100 relay team that took third place at the Nebraska state championships in the spring.
On the gridiron, Williams recorded 66 tackles, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries during the 2024 season. His knack for generating turnovers also resulted in a total of three defensive touchdowns, which included a pick-six and two fumble recovery returns for touchdowns.
Williams’ commitment brings Iowa State back up to 16 commits for the class of 2026, after the recent decommitment of four-star quarterback Jett Thomalla, who flipped to Alabama. He joins other defensive back commits Tyrell Chatman and Kaprice Keith.
Keith is listed as an athlete on recruiting services, but he is projected to play safety at Iowa State.
Williams’ commitment also helps fill a gap left behind by three-star safety Brayden Thomas, who flipped from the Cyclones to Michigan State on June 2.
