The Iowa Hawkeyes, known for tradition and steadiness, don’t step out of the box too often. From their pregame routine to how they play the game to how they carry themselves, the Hawkeyes are not often one for fluff and extras.
This week’s matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, which is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 25, from Kinnick Stadium, will see the Hawkeyes taking a step away from a staple of their program. Iowa will be ditching its standard yellow pants.
The long-standing and traditional home uniform combination featuring a black helmet, black jersey, and yellow pants, will see Iowa fully embrace “Back in Black” this weekend. The Hawkeyes are going to be donning their black pants, creating an all-black blackout uniform.
The news comes from a post on X by the official Iowa Hawkeyes Football account showing Deshaun Lee rocking the all-black combination.
Last time Iowa hosted the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Kinnick Stadium, they wore alternate uniforms as well. In 2023, Iowa wore its inverted uniforms, which featured a yellow top and black pants, the opposite of the standard home uniform.
