After winning a recruiting battles for Ronnie Hill and Kasen Thomas, Iowa football was on the losing end of the recruitment for a talented three-star tight end.
It was on June 19 that Preston Fryzel announced his final three schools: Iowa, Notre Dame and Miami (Fla.).
Fryzel announced on Monday that he would be taking his talents to South Bend, Indiana, to join the Notre Dame football program, choosing the Fighting Irish over the Hawkeyes and Hurricanes.
Missing out on Fryzel is a setback for the Iowa football 2026 recruiting class as they’re still without a tight end commit in the class.
Iowa has offers out to a pair of other tight ends in the 2026 class, four-star JC Anderson and three-star Tyler Ruxer. Anderson has offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Illinois and Arkansas, while Ruxer has offers from West Virginia, Oklahoma and Duke among other schools.
Iowa still has plenty of time to add more prospects and offers to that list and fans should have no doubt that Kirk Ferentz will bring in a tight end recruit in the 2026 class.
