Weeks after being abruptly removed from No. 4 Iowa wrestling’s (9-4, 2-2 Big Ten) roster, former Hawkeyes star Massoma Endene has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
On Jan. 13, Iowa wrestling coach Tom Brands announced Endene was no longer part of the program and provided very few details for the dismissal. Interestingly, the decision coincided with the week Endene and his wife welcomed their first child.
According to Justin Basch, Endene intends to seek a medical redshirt waiver from the NCAA to preserve his final year of eligibility.
Endene was a three-time Division III national champion at Wartburg College. He opened the 2025-26 season on a tear, posting a 6-1 record with the Hawkeyes and rising to No. 4 nationally at the 197-pound weight class per Intermat.
The Hawkeyes’ next dual meet will be on Feb. 6 against No. 2 Ohio State from the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio. That dual will be carried on the Big Ten Network at 7 p.m. CT.
