Former Iowa state Rep. Joe Mitchell has been hired as a regional administrator for the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Mitchell, a Republican, served two terms in the Iowa House from 2019 to 2023, representing Henry County and parts of Lee, Jefferson and Washington counties.

He later founded Run Gen Z, a group that aims to elect young conservatives to office, and served on President Donald Trump’s transition team.
Mitchell will lead HUD’s field operations for Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska, the agency announced in a news release on Wednesday, July 23.
“As a native Iowan and former state legislator, I’m committed to strengthening our nation’s heartland to help Iowans, Kansans, Missourians and Nebraskans realize the American Dream,” Mitchell said in a statement.
HUD Secretary Scott Turner praised Mitchell.
“With Joe Mitchell’s leadership, HUD’s Great Plains Region will continue to make a positive difference in the lives of Americans who call that region home,” he said. “As the youngest member of the Iowa House, Mitchell has proven his ability to use innovative solutions to accomplish big wins for the American people, and I look forward to the great work we will accomplish at HUD.”
