The Oklahoma City Thunder officially introduced Bennett Stirtz in a press conference on Friday.
The former Hawkeye point guard had his draft rights traded to Oklahoma City on draft night. The Memphis Grizzlies originally took him with the 16th-overall pick. The Thunder liked Stirtz as a prospect, which caused them to make a move for him shortly afterward.
After giving him a couple of days to get down to Oklahoma City, the Thunder held a press conference to introduce Stirtz and their other draft picks. He was joined by Michigan’s Aday Mara and Kentucky’s Otega Oweh on the stage as they took questions from reporters and held up their new jerseys.
When asked about what excites him the most about being in Oklahoma City, Stirtz had the following to say.
“I’m just excited about creatig relationships with the guys and winning,” Stirtz said. “It’s super important for all three of us to be around winning. We have to maintain that and come in ready to learn. We’re going to make mistakes, but we have to be ready to make mistakes and learn from all the other guys that have made and won the [NBA] Finals.”
Stirtz and the rest of the Thunder’s rookie class will soon take the court for Summer League action. The Thunder’s first Summer League game will be next Saturday, July 4, at 2 p.m. CT. They’ll be taking on the Grizzlies, the team that originally drafted Stirtz.
