Kelsey Mitchell has been stellar so far this season for the Indiana Fever, and the league is starting to take notice. Through 30 games, Mitchell leads the Fever in scoring (24.0 points), was named an All-Star game starter, and currently is a driving force propelling Indiana to the top of the Eastern Conference.
On Thursday, two Minnesota Lynx players were asked who they felt was the toughest player to defend in the league. Maya Caldwell and Nia Coffey didn’t mince words in their replies.
“Kelsey Mitchell,” said Caldwell.
“By far,” replied Coffey.
Both Lynx players felt Mitchell doesn’t receive enough recognition for her play. Caldwell went as far as calling her ‘unguardable’.
This comes just days after the Fever fell to the Lynx on the road. Minnesota’s rookie All-Star Olivia Miles talked to Holly Rowe at halftime of that game, and gave Mitchell her well-deserved flowers.
“Kelsey Mitchell is really the one kills us right now,” Miles said. “That is lowkey my ‘Welcome to the W’ moment, just trying to guard her.”
The Fever’s leading-scorer was the sole Indiana All-Star left off the Team USA roster that was released Thursday. Despite being left off the USA group, Mitchell’s career year hasn’t gone unnoticed by the rest of the league.
