West Lafayette police find unresponsive woman in Neon Cactus parking lot

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN — West Lafayette police and the Tippecanoe County coroner are investigating the death of a 35-year-old Lafayette woman who was discovered about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday lying in the parking lot in front of the Neon Cactus.

Ashley Kallenberger was seen on surveillance video walking in the area, police said.

When officers arrived, they found her unresponsive, police said. Officers found cigarette butts, an open bag of Cheetos and a lighter near her.

Medics transported Kallenberger to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday.

So far, police do not suspect foul play because there were no overt signs of injury, police said.

Coroner Carrie Costello said a forensic autopsy is scheduled for Thursday to determine the cause and manner of death.
