Voting for the April 20-25 South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week poll is officially open. Voting is unlimited until 11:59 p.m. ET Thursday, April 30, with no restrictions.
The poll is below the following list of 26 nominees from 22 different South Bend Tribune coverage area schools and six different sports. They are in alphabetical order first by school, then by sport, then by first name.
Kaeden Warfield, Brandywine baseball
The senior combined for six RBIs, three hits, three stolen bases, two walks and two runs in four Bobcats wins against Dowagiac and Watervliet. Head coach David Sidenbender surpassed 500 career wins as well. In a doubleheader sweep vs. Hartford April 25, Warfield had two hits, two stolen bases, a double, a run and a walk.
JJ Cencelewski, Bremen baseball
The senior hit a walk-off single vs. Jimtown April 23, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate and pitched five innings of shutout baseball, allowing just four hits while striking out two batters, in a win vs. LaVille April 20. He had two doubles, two runs and three RBIs in a win vs. Jimtown April 24. In a doubleheader split vs. Culver Academies April 25, Cencelewski had a double, an RBI, three walks, three runs and a stolen base.
Reese Berry, Buchanan softball
The freshman hit two home runs, drove in five RBIs, collected five runs and hit two doubles in the Bucks’ doubleheader sweep vs. Berrien Springs April 22.
Jaxson Meyer, Concord track & field
The senior Lawrence University commit won the 1,600-meter run (4:37.02) and was part of the Minutemen’s first-place 4×800 relay team (8:21.40) at the Goshen Relays April 25, helping lead Concord to a team championship.
Ella Zache, Edwardsburg softball
The junior combined for 11 RBIs, eight hits, seven runs, six walks, a home run and three doubles as the Eddies went 5-1 last week.
Ava Walker, Elkhart softball
The junior combined for five RBIs, four hits, two runs and a triple in a doubleheader sweep vs. New Prairie April 23. Walker got two more hits, RBIs, runs and stolen bases against Concordia April 25.
Emma Walter, Fairfield track & field
The junior set a new record in winning the 100-meter dash at the Lady Kingsmen track and field invitational at Penn Saturday. Walter clocked in at 12.01 seconds.
Addi Manering, Glenn softball
The sophomore combined for four hits, three RBIs, one run and one stolen base as the Falcons went 2-1 at the Jimtown Invitational April 25. She combined for three hits, three runs and a walk in two more games April 21 and 23.
Brayden Hoag, Goshen baseball
The senior threw a no-hitter against Mishawaka, striking out seven batters, walking one and hitting one by a pitch as the RedHawks beat the Cavemen 11-0 April 23.
Amari Lind, Goshen track & field
The sophomore won three events – 100-meter dash (12.68 seconds), 4×100 meter relay (49.36 seconds) and high jump (5-03) – at the Goshen Relays April 25, leading the RedHawks to a team championship.
Karmen Frazier, Mishawaka softball
The senior combined for four hits, five RBIs, two doubles and one run as the Cavemen beat Plymouth April 20 and Wawasee April 22.
Connor Tidwell, New Prairie baseball
The senior collected four RBIs across a two-game sweep of Elkhart April 22-23, also getting two hits, a walk and a stolen base.
Brody Lace, Niles baseball
The junior combined for six hits, six RBIs, seven runs, three stolen bases and a walk as the Vikings beat Sturgis April 21 and Mishawaka Marian April 23. In a tripleheader sweep April 25, Lace combined for five runs, four hits, five RBIs, a walk and a triple.
Cheyenne Small, Niles tennis
Small won the No. 1 singles flight at the Paw Paw Invitational against Paw Paw, Lakeshore and South Christian April 26 as the Vikings finished in second overall.
Jade Snyder, Northridge tennis
The junior went 3-0 at No. 3 singles, losing just one game, to lead the Raiders to a 3-0 mark and the team title of the Bremen Tournament April 25.
Cayden Stockbridge, Penn baseball
The senior Purdue commit threw a shutout vs. Mishawaka Marian April 22, striking out 15 batters and allowing just four hits.
Logan Rumble, Penn softball
The senior had two hits and three RBI as the Class 4A No. 2 Kingsmen beat Class 3A No. 1 Cathedral 7-3 April 25. The Northwestern commit also had three hits and four RBIs in a 13-6 win over Carmel later that day.
Lila Van Hoveln, Penn track & field
The junior distance star won the 1,600 and 3,200-meter races in times of 5:14.06 and 11:18.14, respectively, to lead her team to the championship of the Lady Kingsmen Invitational April 25.
Ivy Stackhouse, Plymouth softball
The junior pitched a one-hitter with 17 strikeouts in an 18-1 win over Warsaw in a six-inning NLC contest Saturday. Stackhouse also had three hits and two RBIs.
Alana Allen, Plymouth track & field
The senior Grace College commit was a part of three program record-breaking performances April 22. Individually, she set Plymouth records in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, with 12.38-second and 25.95-second finishes, respectively. She also was on the 4×100 relay quartet with Kathryn Morrison, Hayden Shipley and Jersey Hunter that set a program record with a 49.32-second finish.
Jersey Hunter, Plymouth track & field
The senior also broke the Pilgrims’ 100-meter hurdles record at the Lady Kingsmen Invitational with a 15.35-second finish April 25.
Brayah Williams-Winston, South Bend Adams softball
The freshman combined for eight RBIs, 11 hits, three runs, one double, two stolen bases and one walk as the Eagles went 3-2 last week.
Bradford Washington, South Bend Riley volleyball
The junior led the Wildcats with 29 kills in three victories to win the NorthWood Invitational April 25.
James Criniti, South Bend Saint Joseph baseball
The junior combined for four RBIs, five runs, four hits, five stolen bases, a triple, a walk and a hit by pitch in a doubleheader sweep vs. South Bend Adams at Four Winds Field April 22. He picked up two hits, one RBI, three runs, two stolen bases and one walk in a doubleheader sweep vs. Northridge April 25.
Nathan Palmer, Trinity Academy golf
The junior tied for the best score at the J.H. Ganger Invitational April 24 with a 70, helping the Titans win the meet with a school record 294 team score.
Max Johnson, Triton baseball
The sophomore combined for four hits, seven RBIs, five runs and two stolen bases as the Trojans won four games last week to improve to 8-1.
