There were several standout individual football performances in week one across Southwestern Indiana. Who gets your vote?
North linebacker Ricky White Jr. was voted the Courier & Press high school football Player of the Week for Week 1. The senior received 37,823 votes from over 94,000 cast. White Jr., an All-State linebacker last season, had six total tackles including 4.5 for loss in the Huskies’ 33-22 victory over Castle.
North (1-0) travels to Memorial (1-0) tonight in Week 2 for another key Southern Indiana Athletic Conference matchup.
Below are the full results of the poll and information on all nominees. The Player of the Week poll will be live every Monday morning and run through 10 a.m. CT Friday.
Courier & Press high school football Player of the Week nominees
Grant Davis, Boonville: The senior running back had 162 rushing yards on 14 carries and four touchdowns in a 33-0 win over Paoli.
Zach Foster, Gibson Southern: The senior quarterback was 17 of 31 passing for 192 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 165 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-28 win over Danville.
Jett Goldsberry, Heritage Hills: The senior quarterback passed for 146 yards with one touchdown and ran for 117 yards with four scores in a 66-0 win over South Spencer.
Nash Hostetter, Mount Vernon: The senior wide receiver caught three passes (all touchdowns) for 160 yards in a 44-0 win over Forest Park.
Nolan Schickel, Mater Dei: The senior wide receiver caught five passes for 127 yards and four touchdowns for the Wildcats in a 44-14 win over Central.
Wes Kelley, Memorial: The senior defensive back had seven total tackles and returned an interception 103 yards for a touchdown in a 36-14 win over Jasper.
Karwin Pope, Princeton: The senior had three touchdowns, including an 80-yard run, in a 28-16 win over Tecumseh.
Ricky White Jr., North: The senior linebacker had six total tackles including 4.5 for loss in a 33-22 victory over Castle.
