Below is a full list of 14 nominees from 10 different South Bend area high schools, listed in alphabetical order by school then gender.
Eliana Grubbs, Bremen girls basketball
The senior scored 22 points and hit two buzzer beaters to help the Lions beat Winamac 58-39 to win a third consecutive IHSAA Class 2A sectional championship Saturday, February 7.
Catie Brenneman, Concord girls swimming
The senior Notre Dame commit tied Michelle Braden for the most individual sectional championships in program history by winning three races Feb. 7, moving her total to 11.
Kaleb Anderson-Mitchell, Elkhart boys basketball
The freshman scored 30 points in a 67-39 win against New Prairie Thursday, Feb. 5, and he dropped 10 when the Lions handed Bremen its first loss of the season Feb. 7.
Ivy Clapsaddle, Elkhart Christian Academy girls basketball
The senior reached 1,000 career points in the Eagles’ IHSAA Class 1A sectional semifinal win against Trinity Academy Friday, Feb. 6. Elkhart Christian won its second straight sectional title by beating Culver Feb. 7.
Macy Worthman, Fairfield girls basketball
The senior hit a game-winning shot with 5.3 seconds left to give the Falcons’ a 30-28 IHSAA Class 3A sectional championship win against Tippy Valley Feb. 7. It was Worthman’s only score of the game.
Madison Jones, Fairfield girls basketball
The junior reached 1,000 career points in the Falcons’ first-round sectional win against Wawasee Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Lily Scholl, Northridge girls basketball
The junior had one of the best single-game performances in the state this season by dropping a career-high 42 points in the Raiders’ 63-60 IHSAA Class 4A sectional championship win against Warsaw Feb. 7. Scholl surpassed 1,000 career points in the game.
Vinny Freeman, Penn boys wrestling
Feb. 7, the senior Cornell commit became the first Kingsmen to ever win an individual regional championship all four years of high school.
Alayna Riggins, Penn girls swimming
In the 100-yard butterfly, the senior Purdue commit set a South Bend Riley pool record with a first place time of 54.29 seconds as the Kingsmen won their sixth IHSAA sectional in a row Feb. 7.
Molly Barnes, Penn girls swimming
The junior SMU commit set a South Bend Riley pool record with a first place time of 54.29 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke at IHSAA sectionals Feb. 7.
Drew Dixon, South Bend Adams boys basketball
The junior hit a game-winning jumper to help the Eagles beat Portage 69-67 Feb. 7, giving Adams its first win in nearly a month. Dixon scored 17 points in the game.
Da’Kori Parker, South Bend Riley boys basketball
The junior set a single-game program record with 11 3-pointers in a 92-58 win against Mishawaka Marian Feb. 3. He led the Wildcats with 35 points in the game.
Elijah King, South Bend Saint Joseph boys basketball
The junior reached 1,000 career points in a win against South Bend Adams Feb. 5. King led the Huskies to two other wins last week, beating Culver Academies Feb. 3 and Mount Carmel (Illinois) Feb. 7.
Arianna Rowell, South Bend Saint Joseph girls basketball
The freshman scored 21 points in a first-round sectional win against Plymouth Feb. 3, 25 points in a sectional semifinal win against Mishawaka Marian Feb. 6 and 25 in a sectional championship loss against Culver Academies Feb. 7.
