When Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson suffered a dislocated right pinkie in the preseason opener, it all happened so fast. David Ojabo of the Baltimore Ravens came unblocked off the edge and smothered Richardson.
But there’s a lot that went into that fleeting moment, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner breaks it down in a 10-minute tutorial on social media.

Warner spends the first half of his video breaking down the blocking schemes and Baltimore’s potential rushing schemes. The Ravens have three players to each side of the ball who might rush Richardson.
As he rolls the video, Warner dissects the moves of Colts blockers and receivers in response to the Ravens’ rush. Running back D.J. Giddens breaks to the right flat, where he is open. Receiver Ashton Dulin, lined up to the right of Richardson, runs a few steps and turns in.
However, Richardson is looking left and doesn’t see either receiver or Ojabo, who sacks him hard.
“He’s got to peek and understand whether he’s got a hot (open receiver on a blitz) here (to the right),” Warner said. “He might have to take a hit here, but you’ve got to be aware of where your hots are in any situation.”
Warner’s conclusion: “The play was there for the offense to win. AR’s just got to be a little more aware of, ‘What are we doing with the different protections? Where are we sliding? Who’s my most dangerous guy that I’ve got to get my eyes on first?'”
Richardson didn’t play the rest of the game, but he returned to practice two days later on Aug. 9. Here’s how Colts coach Shane Steichen expects to use Richardson in Saturday’s prepseason game against the Green Bay Packers.
