Small-school Central Indiana softball standouts to watch during sectionals

The pool of talented Central Indiana high school softball players runs deep. Here are some of the area’s top performers from the Class A and 2A ranks.

Christel House (7-8, 2A)

Kiona Gomez, Sr., 2B-SS-P: Gomez boasts a .438 average with 20 runs and 19 RBIs. Her game log includes five multi-hit games. 

Alyssa Schultz, Sr., SS-P: Schultz is batting .600 for a third consecutive season. Her lofty average includes four doubles, seven triples and a homer, and has resulted in 25 runs scored and 21 RBIs. She’s also tallied 73 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched and stolen five bases. 

Covenant Christian (6-16, 2A)

Layke Alexander, So., P-UTIL: The first-year varsity hurler has accumulated 93 strikeouts over 77 innings pitched. She tossed a three-hit, seven-inning shutout of Kokomo in late April with 12 strikeouts and only one walk. 

Emmy Nottingham, Jr., 3B-SS-2B: Nottingham is maintaining a .500 average for a second straight year, amassing 25 hits in 50 at-bats. 11 of her hits have gone for extra bases, including eight doubles, a triple and two homers. She’s also driven in 20 RBIs.

Avery Bassett, Sr., INF-OF: The do-it-all senior is one of the team’s more dependable hitters, batting .375 with 18 hits, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored. Bassett helped spark a 10-9 win over Ben Davis last month with two hits and a couple runs scored. 

Mia Boruff, Fr., 2B-SS-C: The freshman has stepped right in this year, batting .377 with 23 runs scored, a couple triples and 11 steals. She’s collected two-plus hits in three of her past five games, including a 2-for-3 effort vs. Lutheran (one homer).

Cardinal Ritter (9-10, 2A)

Owen Finke, Fr.: The power-hitting freshman is batting .616 with seven doubles, two triples and 11 homers. She’s scored 38 runs and driven in 29 RBIs, and has also stolen 10 bases. Finke has maintained a .917 fielding percentage on 48 chances.

Robyn Buck, Sr.: Buck’s raised her batting average by an entire point from last season, going 26-for-65 (.400) with three doubles, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored. She’s been perfect on 54 chances in the field.

Addie Galbreath, Jr.: Galbreath is batting .414 with 24 hits, 20 runs and 11 RBIs. She’s stolen six bases and taken significant strides defensively, charged with only two errors on 23 chances. 

Sophia Barnes, Sr.: Barnes has stolen six bases and raised her average from .115 as a junior to .317 as a senior. Her collection of hits includes five doubles, two triples and two homers, and she’s accounted for 15 RBIs. 

Addie Galbreath, Jr.: Galbreath averages .350 with six doubles, 14 runs and 15 RBIs. She’s stolen a couple bases and taken part in three double plays in the field. 

Eastern Hancock (14-4, 2A)

Nieko Engleking, So., P-INF: Engleking has lowered her ERA to 4.34 and raised her win total to seven this season. She’s struck out 35 batters and is holding hitters to a .253 average, a sharp improvement from last season (.312). The sophomore has a homer, 10 RBIs and 13 runs herself. 

Chyan Evans, Jr., INF: Evans is batting .351 with four doubles, 18 RBIs and 12 runs. She’s swiped three bags and been perfect in the field, registering 49 putouts and three assists, plus five double plays.

Lilli Ringer, Sr., INF-OF: Ringer enjoyed a breakout campaign as a junior. She’s been even better as a senior, batting .562 with 10 doubles, three triples and five RBIs. She’s driven in 22 RBIs, scored 32 runs and stolen 15 bases, pushing her career total to 54. 

Addisyn Trackwell, Sr., OF-INF: One of the state’s top talents regardless of class, Trackwell’s closing out her decorated career in style, batting .492 with 30 hits — seven off her career-high. She has 136 career hits and has driven in 26 RBIs and scored 25 runs on her own this year. The Louisville commit has been a menace on the basepaths, swiping 26 bases.

Adalyn Willis, Fr.: Adalyn Willis is marking her debut by batting .466 with six doubles, two triples and two home runs. She’s driven in 27 RBIs and scored 23 runs herself, while maintaining a near-perfect .985 fielding percentage on 67 chances (one error). 

Alivia Willis, Fr.: A key arm for the Royals, Alivia Willis is 4-2 with a 3.65 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched. She’s been a steady presence at the plate, as well, boasting a .444 average with 12 hits and 12 runs scored.

Hannah Wittgren, Sr., INF: Wittgren has 20 hits, 13 RBIs and 15 runs through 17 games, and has a .942 fielding percentage with 11 assists and 38 putouts on 52 chances. She’s also stolen eight bases.

Edinburgh (18-7, A)

Kenna Streeval, Sr., SS-P-CF: The do-it-all Streeval is putting up video game numbers: .676 average, 50 hits, 14 doubles, six triples, 10 homers, 49 RBIs and 46 runs scored. Because that’s not enough, she’s also stolen 24 bases, holds a .978 fielding percentage with five double plays and is 10-4 in the circle with a 3.65 ERA and 102 strikeouts.

Chloe Hancock, So., P-SS-2B: Hancock holds a .351 average with 26 hits, 22 runs and 37 runs scored. She’s doubled eight times, homered twice and tripled once.

Elizabeth Hernandez, Sr., CF-2B: Hernandez has taken a massive jump from her freshman season, posting a .421 average with 32 hits, 35 runs and 15 RBIs. She’s also stolen 11 bases. 

Adalyn Ramey, So., OF: The sophomore has 25 hits, 21 runs and 26 RBIs on the season. She’s hit four doubles and two triples, and stolen 10 bases. 

Eminence (6-8, A)

Abby Dittemore, Sr.: Abby’s enjoying a career year, boasting a .400 average with a career-best 20 RBIs and 16 runs scored. She’s homered twice, doubled seven times and tripled thrice. 

Emmalin Dittemore, So.: Emmalin has maintained momentum from a strong freshman campaign,batting .575 with 23 hits, 18 runs and five RBIs. She has six doubles and two triples, and has stolen six bases. 

Chloe Smith, Fr.: Part of a very good young core, the first-year varsity letterwinner is among the team’s top hitters with a .469 average. She’s scored 17 runs and leads the team with 12 steals. 

Emma Webb, So., P: Webb’s been excellent pitching, logging a 2.43 ERA and 52 strikeouts over 63.1 innings. She’s maintaining a .389 average herself with 14 hits, 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored. 

Greenwood Christian (3-7, A)

Addison Sholtey, Fr., OF: Shotley is at the forefront of an extremely young GCA squad, batting .387 in 10 games with five doubles and a homer. She’s also scored 13 runs. 

Trinity York, Fr., 3B-C: Another of the GCA youngsters, York is averaging .385 with five runs and five RBIs. 

Heritage Christian (9-10, 2A)

Sela Barrow, Jr.: Barrow’s batting .400 with 22 hits, 17 RBIs and 14 runs scored. She’s clocked eight doubles and a homer (the second of her career). 

Harper Drook, Jr.: Drook is batting .370 with seven doubles, seven homers and two triples. She has accounted for 24 runs scored and 27 RBIs. She’s also swiped five bases. 

Anna Hilbrich, Sr.: Hilbrich’s average steadily improved during her four-year varsity career and she’s now batting .485 as a senior with career-highs in hits (32), runs (28), RBIs (27) and triples (2). She’s also doubled four times, stolen nine bases (career-high) and committed only two errors on 27 chances.

Audrey Kopka, Jr.: Kopka has driven in 19 RBIs and scored 29 runs for the Eagles thus far. She’s batting .346 with six doubles, a triple and a dinger, and has stolen eight bases. Kopka has also improved defensively, posting a .964 fielding percentage with only four errors on 112 chances. 

Irvington Prep (4-8, 2A)

Bailey Cline, Sr.: Cline is another of the team’s top hitters, batting .462 with three doubles, three triples and two homers. She has scored 12 runs and scored 14 RBIs.

Hallie Galdwell, Sr.: Galdwell holds a .609 average with 16 runs and seven RBIs. She’s tripled twice and also hit a double. 

Lapel (12-6, 2A)

Delaney Basler, Sr., 1B: The senior infielder is batting a career-best .377 with a couple doubles. She’s scored 17 runs and driven in nine RBIs and has been very dependable in the field, maintaining a .972 fielding percentage with two double plays. 

Addison Bodenhorn, Jr., 3B-P: Boddenhorn is batting .392 with 20 hits, 19 RBIs and 12 runs. She’s only struck out twice in 64 plate appearances.

Paige Stires, Sr., C-OF-2B: The Bulldogs’ lone hitter batting above .400, Stires’ impressive .475 average — a career-best — includes eight doubles and has resulted in 39 runs (23 scored, 16 driven in). She’s only struck out five times in 72 plate appearances.

Jama Everman, Jr., OF-C: Everman has a career-high 24 hits and a career-high 21 RBIs in her first full varsity season. She has a double play to her name in the field, with only one error on 21 chances in the field.

Madison Wainscott, So., 2B-P: The sophomore has shined at the varsity level, collecting 20 hits, 13 RBIs and eight runs scored. She’s also pitched 13 innings, allowing only four earned runs and striking out seven. 

Ava Zdanowski, Jr., P-UTIL: One of the area’s top small-school arms, the third-year varsity starter has logged 57.1 innings thus far, compiling a 2.44 ERA (20 earned runs allowed, 11 between losses to Mississinewa and Hagerstown) with 70 strikeouts. Zdanowski is limiting hitters to a .179 average.

Lutheran (21-7, A)

Leyla Miller, Sr., 3B-SS: Miller’s averaging a career-best .500 with 11 doubles, two homers, 12 runs and 30 RBIs (five off her career-high). She’s only struck out twice in 61 plate appearances. 

Amelia Hughes, So., SS-2B-UTIL: Hughes has stolen eight bases nad clocked 24 hits, one more than last season, with a couple doubles. She’s driven in eight RBIs and scored 24 runs herself.

Avery Langston, So., CF-UTIL: Langston is maintaining a .362 average with 21 hits, 19 runs and nine RBIs. She’s doubled thrice and tripled twice, and also stolen six bases. 

Susanna Smith, Fr., P-1B, UTIL: The freshman is batting .358 in her debut campaign with a homer and four doubles. She has 14 runs and 13 RBIs through 19 games, and has allowed only two runs on 12 hits with 38 strikeouts in her 21 innings pitched. 

Gracie Boggs, Sr., P-1B: The fourth-year standout is batting .311 and has been very good against a very difficult schedule in the circle. Boggs is 7-4 with a 3.81 ERA and 76 strikeouts over 57 innings pitched.

Lilly Schultz, So., P-UTIL: The second-year hurler is 5-1 with a 3.89 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 45 innings. She’s issued only six walks and is limiting opposing hitters to a .290 average.

Susanna Smith, Fr., 2B-OF: The first-year standout is batting .422 with seven doubles and three triples. She’s scored 15 runs and driven in 10 RBIs. 

Mornovia (12-12, 2A)

Camryn Wolfe, So., SS-C: A three-sport standout, Wolfe’s batting right around .500 for a second consecutive season (.492, nine doubles, 20 runs). She’s also stolen 13 bases and improved her fielding percentage from a season ago, committing just five errors on 107 chances (.953). 

Brylee Stwalley, Fr., C-3B: Stwalley’s making a nice splash in her debut campaign. She’s the team’s second-leading hitter at .422 with 24 RBIs and 10 runs scored. Her four dingers lead the team and her eight doubles rank second.

Avery Wolfe, Sr., 3B-1B: Another three-sport athlete, Wolfe’s closing out her high school career with a bang. She’s batting a career-best .418 with four doubles, and has a .932 fielding percentage with only three errors on 44 chances.

Harlow Toole, So., P-INF: Toole’s been solid in the circle this season, collecting 44 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched.

Nevaeh Dillon, Jr., P-INF: Dillon is 5-3 with a 4.03 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 59 innings pitched. She’s yet to allow an extra-base hit, but has six herself (three doubles, three home runs) as part of her .400 average.

Morristown (8-9, A)

Leigh Ann Arnold, Fr., 1B-P: Arnold is batting .471 in her debut season. She’s racked up 24 hits, 15 runs and 17 RBIs, and stolen 11 bases. 

Abby Hawk, Jr., P-SS-C: Hawk has pitched 57 innings, compiling a 4.05 ERA with 82 strikeouts. She’s also doubled six times and driven in 13 RBIs at the dish. 

Sawyer Rogers, So., SS-P: Rogers is among the team’s top hitters with her .615 average which includes four doubles, seven triples and three home runs. She’s logged 21 runs, 18 RBIs and 11 steals, and is 4-3 in the circle with a 4.75 ERA and 57 strikeouts. 

Mykynzy Smith, Sr., CF-3B: Smith holds a .447 batting average with 21 hits, 24 runs and 10 RBIs. She’s stolen 16 bases. 

Scecina (7-9, 2A)

Sarah Causemaker, Sr., LF-UTIL: The senior is in the midst of her best season to date. She’s batting .438 with three doubles and 10 runs scored. 

Olivia Covarrubias, Sr., P-UTIL: The Crusaders’ top hurler, Covarrubias has a 4.74 ERA and 65 strikeouts in her 51.2 innings pitched. She’s also one of their top hitters with a career-best .475 average that includes three doubles, three triples and a homer, plus 17 RBIs and 13 runs scored. 

Addyka Smith, Fr., C: Smith maintains a .400 average with 14 hits, 13 RBIs and eight runs scored. She’s doubled five times and cranked a home run this season, and stolen four bases. 

Sheridan (3-13, 2A)

Ellie Eaton, Fr., SS-C-2B: Eaton has been a steady presence at the dish for the Blackhawks, batting a robust .574 with 10 doubles, two triples and five homers. She accounted for 27 runs scored and driven in 17 RBIs. 

Amiyah Doss, So., 3B-P-OF: A .472 hitter, Doss has hits in 13 of 16 games, notching five doubles, a couple triples and two homers. She’s driven in 14 RBIs, six of which came between games against Carroll (Flora) and North Montgomery. 

Abby Dallas, Jr., 2B-SS-P: Dallas is 5-for-12 over her past three games, raising her season average to .357. 4-for-8 over her past two games, raising her season average to .361. She has 17 runs and 12 RBIs. 

Triton Central (12-7, 2A)

Jalynn Keith, Sr., UTIL: Keith has eight doubles, a triple and a homer, and has driven in 12 RBIs and scored 14 runs. She’s batting .377 on the season.

Kimiko Keith, So., UTIL: Keith’s collected 24 hits, 25 runs and 17 RBI thus far this season. Her hits include three doubles and three triples, and she’s stolen four bases.

Ashlyn Hittle, So., 3B-UTIL: Hittle’s established herself as a very reliable hitter, batting .561 with a team-leading 12 home runs, nine doubles and two triples. She’s driven in 31 RBIs and scored 33 runs, all while maintaining a .909 fielding percentage with five double plays.

Elly May, Fr., C-3B-UTIL: May played a couple games on JV, but she’s been a varsity staple ever since, batting .386 with 22 hits (five homers, five doubles and a triple), 15 runs and 19 RBIs. 

Makinah Noel, Sr., UTIL: Noel’s batting a career-best .417 with four homers, four doubles, 24 runs and 13 RBIs. She has accounted for nine of her 26 stolen bases this spring. 

Madi Peterson, Sr., P-UTIL: Peterson has a .340 average with 14 RBIs and six runs at the plate, six steals on the basepaths and three wins and 28 strikeouts over 50.2 innings in the circle. 

Waldron (5-12, A)

Abby Crouch, Fr.: The three-sport freshman has 15 hits in 36 at-bats on the diamond. She has homered twice, doubled twice, scored 21 runs and driven in 13 RBIs. Crouch has also stolen 18 bases.
