Six potential underdogs to watch in high school wrestling semistate meets

Here are six potential Central Indiana underdogs to watch at the high school wrestling semistate meets on Saturday at New Castle Fieldhouse and at the Ford Center in Evansville:

Henry Antrobus, Noblesville

The freshman takes a 26-10 record into the semistate at New Castle in the 106-pound class.

Antrobus finished second at the Pendleton Heights regional to sophomore Ethan Bayliss and comes into the semistate ranked No. 25 in the state by Indiana Mat. If Antrobus does not get through this year (the top four in each weight class at semistate advance to next week’s state finals), he will be a name to watch going into next season.

Quinten Schoeff, Avon

The senior is 29-5 going into the semistate at the Ford Center in Evansville after finishing third at the regional meet. Schoeff is ranked fourth in the state by Indiana Mat going into the semistate. He was one step away last year, losing in the quarterfinals of the semistate. Two of the other best wrestlers in his weight class – Braylon Reynolds of Brownsburg and Peyton Hornsby of Center Grove – are also in his semistate.

Lyric Mitchell, Perry Meridian

The junior’s record is not all that impressive at 23-15 but he took second in the 165-pound class at the regional meet to Jackson McCurdy of Roncalli. Mitchell is part of a tough semistate field at New Castle.

Grevin Fields, Brownsburg

The sophomore was the runner-up at the sectional and regional meets in the 285-pound class, losing to Keenan Mowery-Shields of South Putnam each time. Fields takes a 20-10 record into the semistate at Evansville.

Lucas Day, Brownsburg

The senior is 11-9 in the 132-pound class. Day missed the first 30 days of the season after wrestling at Tri-West last season. He finished third at the regional meet.

Kyle Harden, Cathedral

The senior has outstanding record of 35-3 in the 190-pound weigh class. It might not be fair to consider Harden an underdog with that record. But Lawrence North’s Michael White, undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the nation, is in his class. Harden won the regional at Pendleton Heights.
