The end of the home-opening football game for Decatur Central on Friday night was a chaotic scene in the final minute of Avon’s 31-6 victory as fans rushed from the bleachers to the exits.
Decatur Township Schools released a statement that emergency personnel were responding “to an isolated spectator medical incident” at the same time rumors of a potential weapon on site caused the disruption. Police were called to the scene.
From the Decatur Township Schools statement: “Reports circulated of a potential weapon on site. No weapons were found and no shots were fired. Police responded immediately and no injuries beyond the isolated medical emergency have been reported. The incident is still under investigation at this time. We are grateful for the support of IMPD and Decatur Township School Police.”
Decatur Central athletic director Justin Dixson corroborated the statement from the school when reached for comment by IndyStar on Saturday morning that no weapons were found on site and no shots were fired.
Avon hosts Ben Davis next week, while Decatur Central travels to Fort Wayne Wayne.
