RICHMOND, IN — A drug-related investigation has resulted in a Richmond man being charged with dealing in cocaine.
The dealing charge filed on Tuesday, April 14, against 42-year-old Lance Perkins is a Level 2 felony carrying up to 30 years in prison.
In the Wayne Superior Court 1 case, the Richmond man is also charged with maintaining a common nuisance and resisting law enforcement.
According to a Richmond Police Department detective, officers on Monday were investigating reports of drug trafficking at a home in the 700 block of South 10th Street.
When an officer approached Perkins outside the home, he allegedly fled on foot, but stumbled and fell down. He continued to struggle with officers before being placed in handcuffs, according to an affidavit.
The detective wrote that Perkins was determined to be carrying a plastic bag containing 11 grams of cocaine.
A search warrant was then served at the house. Police reported finding a white powder that tested positive for fentanyl, along with paraphernalia including plastic bags and sets of digital scales.
Perkins was being held in the Wayne County Jail on Wednesday under a $75,000 bond.
According to court records, Perkins has been convicted of crimes including dealing in a narcotic drug and dealing in a controlled substance.
Another Richmond man accused of struggling with officers at the scene, 57-year-old Sean Mayberry, was charged Tuesday in Superior Court 1 with resisting law enforcement and maintaining a common nuisance.
He was being held in the jail under a $20,000 bond.
